This book is divided into two parts. Part I documents the Blake family, beginning in England with Robert de Blakeland, who was assessed in the Wiltshire Roll of Subsidies granted in 1286 to Edward I. This section continues with the Blake and branch families for seven generations. Part II documents the Torrey family, beginning with their roots in England and including their branch families in America. Records have shown the genealogy of this family from 1500 to 1640 in England. In the year 1640, William Torrey with his two young sons, his three brothers (James, Philip and Joseph) and cousin George Fry, came to New England. The Blake and Torrey families were joined by the marriage of Nathan Blake III and Susan Torrey in 1815. Each generation is given a thorough narrative treatment. Blake branch families include Bend, Breck, Guild, Graves and Day. Torrey branch families include Haviland, Greene, Symmes, Wilson, Gould and Freeman. Dozens of other allied families are mentioned in this work. A full-name index and more than forty photographs and illustrations of coats of arms, family homes, headstones, maps, documents personal possessions and furniture augment the text.
